Peak 2020

Updated Friday, November 27th

This has been the busiest week and we are smashing it! We’ve dealt with our biggest daily parcel volume ever - on Tuesday night, we had over 250,000 parcels travelling through the Network!

Did you know that parcels come in and out of our Athlone Hub via 210 different Linehaul Routes?! Our Hub Sort is operating from early afternoon to 2a.m. - a massive well done to all the guys for their hard work.

As we hit Black Friday and into the real Christmas Season, we’re set to handle more than 1.5 million parcels weekly throughout the DPD Network during the busy weeks ahead. This is a +100% rise in parcel volumes than the same period in 2019.

The Team here at  DPD promises to do our very best to support you and your business this Christmas.

To put things into perspective, we invested €4m expanding our hub, our Network and our infrastructure so that we could manage the increase in parcel deliveries that have come to us. Covid-19 has changed how we operate - we have stringent safety protocols in place throughout our facilities, we’re providing Contactless Delivery, we’ve extended our Hub Sortation Hours, and our Teams at the DPD Depots all around the country are working really hard to provide great service every single day.

Service Levels

Deliveries all around the country are operating on time. Remember to inform your customers to keep an eye out for their 1-hour Predict SMS and/or Email on the day of delivery!

Northern Ireland is set to face a two-week period of tougher Covid-19 lockdown measures from today, Friday, November 27th, with non-essential retail shutting - parcel volumes may be impacted.

Our drivers are still operating a contactless delivery system. If no-one is home, and a suitable Safe Place is available, our drivers will deliver the parcel to the designated Safe Place or to a Neighbour (according to the shippers’ preferences).

Over the last few days, we have received reports of people receiving texts and emails from a source purporting to be DPD requesting payment for the re-delivery of a parcel. We have reported this to the Garda Síochána. DPD will never request payment for re-delivery of a parcel. Be vigilant, be aware and never click on links from a source that you're not sure of! For more information see here.
The Republic of Ireland is still in Level 5 Lockdown restrictions therefore, Garda checkpoints are in place and affecting traffic in some areas. Given that only essential services are in operation, please do remember to ensure that if you are shipping to a business premises, that they're actually open to accept delivery.

Over the last few weeks you should have received your Username and Password to our new look Track and Trace. The new Tracking provides GPS co-ordinates of the delivery location, has new search functionality as well as a great new look and feel. If you haven't already received your DPD Ireland login, please contact

Your DPD People

We have prepared for this unprecedented growth by expanding the number of DPD depots across the country, growing our employee base, expanding our automated sortation hub in Athlone and investing more than €2m in scanner technology. We will continue to develop our Network facilities to ensure we can maintain the great DPD service.

Team DPD was delighted to receive the Award for Best Response to Covid-19 at the Awards last Friday. It’s fantastic to be recognised for the hard work that the team has put in. We’re thrilled and very grateful.
